A Welcoming Start

Coming from the ‘Big Apple’ where the stars hide behind skyscrapers, I found myself in a world where nature painted its canvas with the freshest of greens and the purest of blues. Nestled among the trees and mountains, Tree House Chalet beckoned me for an adventure like no other. The moment I set foot inside this enchanting retreat, a staff greeted me so warm and welcoming that it felt like they were as excited about my arrival as I was. Checking in was a breeze, and once I entered my room, I realized that I was in for some serious pampering. Although this was a solo adventure, in this little corner of paradise, I never once felt alone.

Making Myself At Home

The hotel offers numerous luxurious suites and chalets. I stayed in ‘Dunhinda Chalet’. The delightful scenery outside my window pulled me like a moth drawn to light. The sun setting between the hills and glistening from behind the tree branches painted the perfect picture and one I eagerly drank in.

Reading on the balcony
Reading on the balcony

A word to the wise, remember that you are in a forest, so stocking up on bug repellent and mosquito spray is a must – these little critters have a fondness for foreign blood. Also, I highly recommend bringing hiking boots. This city girl overlooked these essentials, but to my surprise, the hotel had my back with hiking boots in my size. The odds were in my favor!

What sets this hotel apart is its versatility. Whether you are a Type A or Type B personality, you will never find a dull moment. For the first time in my travels, I abandoned my meticulously planned itineraries, and to my delight, the hotel had thoughtfully arranged activities for my stay. This unexpected turn of events led me out of my comfort zone. I found myself hiking – not once, but twice in a single day, an experience I never imagined but now hold dear.

Breakfast by the Waterfall

A Heavenly Breakfast

At Tree House Chalet, they take the concept of “farm to table” to the next level with a sprawling 750-square-foot organic greenhouse, entirely sustainable, where an abundance of fruits and vegetables flourish. What is truly remarkable is that the food served here is sourced from this very greenhouse. As a guest, I had the privilege of savoring the best, freshest, and most organic produce.

One of the culinary highlights was the traditional Sri Lankan breakfast. Now, I consider myself a bit of a picky eater, but this morning delight won me over. Sri Lankan breakfast is a world away from the typical American fare; it is a delightful fusion of flavors. Picture this: curry and string hoppers accompanied by an array of spices that take your taste buds on a tantalizing journey. While it might feel more like dinner than breakfast, the embrace of another culture’s culinary traditions was a revelation, and I could not complain because it was undeniably good.

To top it off, what stood out during my Sri Lankan solo adventure was the abundance of freshly made juices. Each sip was a burst of refreshment and a vibrant blend of flavors.

Private Photography

What made my stay even more delightful and unique was having my private photographer, Malshan, allowed to accompany me throughout my entire stay. What is more, Malshan was so impressive that, by the time you read this blog, he had officially become a part of the hotel’s staff. His talent and professionalism exceeded all expectations.

Swimming in the Lake

In my extensive travels to various countries and collaborations with numerous photographers, I can confidently say that the photographer at Tree House Chalet stands out as the best I have ever encountered. Malshan’s ability to capture the essence of the surroundings and the emotions of the moment was truly remarkable.

The best part is that now, you too can book Malshan to follow you all around the hotel, ensuring that your visit is beautifully documented with Instagram-worthy pictures. Whether you are exploring the enchanting treehouse accommodations, immersing yourself in nature, or simply enjoying a quiet moment by the fire, he will be there to capture the essence of the moment.

Beautiful sighting

If you are planning a visit to this unique hotel, do yourself a favor and book Malshan. It will undoubtedly transform your stay into a picture-perfect memory you will treasure forever.

Tree House Chalet-led Activities

The hotel offers numerous activities catered for guests and offered personalized, hotel-led activities. This hotel is truly perfect for my type A and B people. Whether you have an idea of what you want to do or not, this hotel is prepared for you. Tree House Chalet is a true haven for both Type A and Type B individuals, catering to guests with a proactive approach to their desires. Whether you are a meticulous planner with a list of adventures in mind or someone who prefers a more spontaneous approach, Tree House Chalet has you covered. The remarkable part is that they can accommodate most requests with just 24-hour notice, making it a truly accommodating experience. For those in the Type B category, Tree House Chalet goes a step further by offering to plan your entire trip, ensuring a stress-free and enjoyable stay.

As a city girl looking to break free from my comfort zone, my goal for this trip was to immerse myself in the wonders of Mother Nature. Tree House Chalet provided the ideal platform for this. I embarked on a journey that included hiking to breathtaking waterfalls, taking in mesmerizing mountain vistas, and even participating in a village tour that exposed me to the local way of life. To top it all off, I took a plunge into a lake that was home to unknown species, making me feel both daring and adventurous. It was an experience that truly encapsulated the beauty of nature and the thrill of exploration.

Nature-friendly Activities

Mountain View Hiking

Tree House Chalet is a stellar destination for naturalists, but those seeking a more nuanced experience can enjoy various activities, including exploring the local archeological site, fly fishing, and trekking. The resort also offers a yoga program, where distressed guests can take a load off their shoulders.

Wildlife Sighting Tours

For animal lovers, the resort guides you to a wide range of local activities, including wildlife sighting tours. If you are lucky, you can spot bear monkeys, check out the local flora and fauna. They even host animal monitoring programs where you can keep up with the majestic beings by watching trail cam footage.

Thrills to Chills

Hiking

For thrill-seekers, an exciting 4WD ride takes them to the most adventurous hiking trail, where they can get the desired adrenaline rush by hiking to the top. Those seeking a relaxed, yet exciting experience can camp on the island, kayak on the local lake, and return to the hotel when they are satisfied.

Influencer Program

Oh, but I don’t think that is where the magic ends. While many resorts worldwide ignore influencers, Tree House Chalet is one of the few that welcomes them with an open heart and even hosts them in an Influencer Program, where participants can avail resort amenities and facilities and return the favor by spreading the love and sharing their experience on social media.

These are not the only perks; Tree House Chalet offers influencer-special discounts and activities, so it’s easier for their audience to see how lovely the resort is. Although I am pretty sure anyone who looked up the resort would be captivated by its glowing reviews and high-end experiences.

Customer Satisfaction

The staff was ready to answer all my queries and ease my concerns the minute I poked my head out the door. Honestly speaking, it was a spoiling I had to get used to. But the love and support from the hotel staff completely wiped out any concerns I had, not that there were many.

The Final Cut

Truthfully, my experience at the Tree House Chalet goes beyond expectations. I imagined it would be one of those resort experiences where you are happy with the outcome. Tree House Chalet offers a range of activities that are not only diverse but also exquisitely tailored to your preferences. It is a place where you can step out of your comfort zone and discover new adventures, while knowing that the hotel is there to support your journey. Whether you are a Type A planner or a Type B wanderer, this hotel is the perfect choice for an unforgettable, nature-filled escape. If I ever have to return to Belihuloya, I’m staying at the Tree House Chalet.

Why You Should Travel to Paris Solo?

Many people believe traveling solo on a limited budget is impossible, especially when your dream destination is one of the Big Five (NYC, Paris, Tokyo, London, and Rome). It doesn’t really help that all we have to reference is the plethora of influencer experiences on TikTok, which downplays the whole idea. But those are just a sham, and this is coming from someone who lives in one of the Big Five and has been to Paris several times.

I understand the idea of traveling solo, especially to populous cities, is nerve-wracking, but trust me, you can do it, and that too on a budget. There are a few tips and tricks that will help you out, but let’s first talk about Paris.

Photoshoot by the Eiffel Tower

Multifaceted Charm of Paris

From social media, we’ve all imagined Paris as some type of enchanter where the dimly-lit streets and candlelight dinners conjure up romance. As magical as Paris is, we’ve been seeing it from rose-tinted glasses. And I don’t mean that the city is bad because it’s immensely beautiful, but there is so much more to Paris than just seeing the Eiffel Tower from your up-class hotel’s balcony.

If I’m being honest, I am not sure why Paris is referenced as the “City of Love”, especially since the Eiffel Tower was only built to be displayed at Paris’s 1889 World Fair. It was supposed to be taken down afterwards, but many admired it to the point it became one of Paris’ famous monument.

Paris is as exciting and cryptic as it’s sultry and calm, and there is so much to do on a limited budget. If you’re a New Yorker or someone who idolize  NYC, Paris is the perfect destination for your next visit. Paris, often dubbed as New York City’s elder sibling, shares a remarkable likeness as NYC. I mean, where do you think NYC received the Statue of Liberty from?

Both cities exude a lively energy that permeates the atmosphere, attracting both dreamers and adventurers. The allure of New York’s electrifying energy finds its echo in Paris’s streets, its cafés, and its iconic landmarks.

The moment you land at Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG), a wave of déjà vu envelops you, akin to returning to an old friend in a foreign land. Like JFK, CDG’s kiosk system navigates with a familiarity that belies the vast distance between them. The ascent of countless flights of stairs to reach the metro echoes the hustle of the subway stations back in New York City, each step a reminder of the bustling urban rhythm shared by these two kindred spirits. And the reserved demeanor of the Parisians you encounter mirrors the stoic self-possession that often characterizes their New Yorker counterparts. In these moments, as you traverse Paris, you can’t help but feel a connection between these two cities.

Transportation In Paris

Exploring Paris by using their local transportation, is a transformative experience that’s both cost-effective and surprisingly efficient. While you can certainly opt for popular tours, venturing on your own is nothing short of otherworldly.

Forget about expensive Uber rides; Paris’s buses and trains offer a budget-friendly alternative, costing just 2.70 Euros per ride. These services run admirably from 5:30 am to 1:15 am, ensuring you can navigate the city like a pro at almost any time. Moreover, it’s not just a fantastic way to save money; it’s also an excellent way to burn some calories as you traverse the charming streets of Paris.

Upon arriving at CDG airport, the buses and trains are conveniently accessible right within the airport premises. While the train from the airport may be slightly pricier due to the airport location, it’s worth noting that, for only 12 euros, it can transport you anywhere in Paris, including direct access to Disneyland.

As an added bonus, what many Tourists don’t know is that the Metro Line 6, particularly the route from Passy to Bir-Hakiem and vice versa, delivers an unparalleled view of the iconic Eiffel Tower. Just be sure to grab a seat on the right side of the train and prepare to be captivated by the breathtaking spectacle that unfolds before your eyes.

Where To Stay When Traveling Solo ?

When it comes to booking your hotel in Paris, take heed of this golden rule: skip the allure of lavish 5-star hotels that perch miles away from local transportation and authentic Parisian experience . Opting for such lavishness might leave your budget gasping for breath, especially if you plan to explore the city’s myriad treasures beyond your immediate vicinity. Instead, here’s the insider’s tip: seek lodging that nestles itself cozily beside a bus stop or a metro station.

In fact, I’ll let you in on a little secret: splurging on those ritzy, 5-star establishments doesn’t often translate into an authentic Parisian experience. While they may shower you with amenities, the essence of Paris lies not in lavish suites, but in the cobblestone streets, bustling markets, and charming cafes that beckon just beyond your doorstep. You see, in this city, every street corner conceals a culinary gem, where croissants melt in your mouth and bistro tables welcome you like a long-lost friend. Trust me; you’ll be dining like royalty regardless of where you lay your head, so it’s a wise move to stick to a budget-friendly accommodation that allows you to savor the true flavors of Paris while leaving ample room in your wallet for unforgettable adventures.

Mingling With Locals

First and foremost, arm yourself with a few common French phrases. It’s the key that unlocks doors, warms hearts, and transforms your experience from ordinary to extraordinary. The magic of a “Bonjour” or “Merci” can’t be overstated. While Parisians may not be known for their nosiness, they deeply appreciate the effort you make to embrace their culture and language.

Don’t be shy to engage in a bit of casual chit-chat. Unlike New Yorkers, the French, like their cuisine, savor their conversations. Strike up a chat with a local shopkeeper about the day’s weather or ask a passerby for directions to your next adventure. It’s in these moments that you’ll truly begin to understand the Parisian way of life. Try to use new French words you picked up as well.

Knowing a few French words, you’ll not only navigate menus with ease but also discover the hidden gems known only to locals. Soon, you’ll find yourself savoring croissants and sipping Bordeaux like a true Parisian. One thing I noticed about many restaurants in Paris, raw steak is common.

By the time your journey nears its end, you’ll have seamlessly blended into Parisian life, a traveler turned honorary Frenchman or Frenchwoman.

@ti3rratravels

Who would of thought partying in Laris with strangers would be such a vibe. This is your sign to take thag solo trip. You will meet people along the way trust and believe me. #solotrip #parisvibes #paristrip #parisparty #ti3rraparis #parisfrance #holidaytravel

The Famous Parisian Food

Don’t fall for those overpriced ‘authentic Parisian food’ shops that you’ll see marketed on Instagram; in France, almost every bakery will give you a sensational experience, and even a common low-price bakery croissant will hit that spot.

And I’ll let you in on a secret no one knows. Do you ever wonder why the French survive on high-carb food but don’t experience dramatic weight gains? Because everything is prepared fresh, you can eat carbs for breakfast and dinner without worrying about gaining a few extra pounds.

So, feel free to be frugal, but don’t forget to go all out when you want to.

Exploring Paris – A Different Angle

We think it’s a must to explore popular monuments from well-known spots, but I found exploring them from unseen angles gives you the best view.

I was also able to interact with the locals, dance along to groovy jamming sessions, and take scenic walks alone at night. That is a great part of Paris; most of the city’s safe even late at night, so you won’t have to hold keys awkwardly between your fingers out of fear.

Although there will be a few weirdos nearby, but ignore them like every New Yorkian does.

Is Paris Really Worth a Visit?

Paris stands as a city that’s both captivating and complex, just like NYC. It’s a place where the reality often diverges from the Instagram-filtered fantasy. You might stumble upon graffiti in unexpected places, catch a whiff of urban life’s less glamorous side, and smell coming from the moist pile of trash out.

But, here’s the secret: Paris is not a city of perfection; it’s a city of authenticity. It’s in these imperfections that you discover the genuine spirit of this enchanting metropolis. Paris embraces all its facets, from the iconic landmarks to the gritty urban art. It’s a place where history, culture, and everyday life converge in a symphony of diversity.

So, should you visit Paris? Absolutely. It’s a city that welcomes all kinds of travelers, from the solo wanderer to the romantic duo. While the initial shock of reality might jolt you, it’s a crucial step towards truly understanding and appreciating Paris.

Once you’ve tasted the vibrant tapestry of Parisian life, you’ll be ready for your next Solo trip. It’s a city that will stay with you, a place of beauty, wonder, and endless exploration. So, go ahead, book that ticket, embrace the adventure, and let Paris unfold its splendid secrets before your very eyes.
