A Comprehensive Guide to Navigating NYC’s Public Transportation from LGA and JFK  Airport

Ever feel overwhelmed by the thought of navigating New York City’s public transportation? You’re not alone. Many tourists find the complexity and cost intimidating. But don’t worry—Ti3rra Travels is here to help you navigate NYC like a pro, even if you’re on a budget. This guide provides step-by-step instructions to get you from LaGuardia (LGA) /JFK Airport to the heart of Manhattan efficiently and affordably.

Leaving LaGuardia Airport (LGA)

1. Uber/Lyft: Quick but Costly

  • Terminal B: After collecting your baggage, follow the signs to ‘Car Services.’ This will lead you to Level 2 of the Terminal B Parking Garage. Do not book your ride until you’re near the garage to avoid extra fees. It’s a bit of a walk but if you really want this service, you have to take it.
  • Terminal C: Uber/Lyft pickups are conveniently located right outside baggage claim at the ‘Car Service’ sign.
  • Taxi: Available on the same level as baggage claim; just follow the signs for ‘Taxi’.

2. Bus: Budget-Friendly and Accessible

There are numerous buses at LGA airport and it is not only easily assessable but one of the busses is free.

  • Q70 Bus (Terminal B & C):
    • Free service making only two stops: Roosevelt Ave/75th St and Woodside Ave/61st St.
      • Connects to E, F, M, R, and 7 trains at Roosevelt Ave/75th St.
      • Connects to LIRR-Woodside Station for a direct train to Penn Station or Grand Central ($5).
@ti3rratravels

Leaving NYC airports is not difficult at all. Born & raised in NYC i had no idea we had a FREE BUS . Please lets ensure it stay free, dont need no ratchness on this bus . The buses are located outside of Door 2 baggage claim at Terminal B. . . #nycbus #nyctransit #mta #publictransportation #howto #nyctravel #ti3rranyctour #tutorial #nyc #lga

♬ A Thousand Miles – Vanessa Carlton

  • M60 SBS (All Terminals):
    • Not a free service; use OMNY, MetroCard, or coins ($2.90).
    • Stops include:
      • E 125 ST/LEXINGTON AV (4, 5, 6 trains)
      • 125 St (Malcolm X Blvd) (2, 3 trains)
      • 125 St (St. Nicholas Ave) (A, C, B, D trains)
      • E 125 ST/PARK AV (Metro-North Railroad).
@ti3rratravels

Buses in NYC tend to be more cleaner & safer than the trains. With NYC implementing bus lanes on the street, buses tend to get to their destinations much faster . Taking the bus you’re able to get a free transfer to another bus or train within 2 hours of the first swipe. . . . #nycbus #nyc #fyp #bus #nyctransit #mta #publictransportation #nyctiktok #newyorkcity #ti3rranyctour #tutorials #exploring #nyctravel #survivingnyc #howto

3. Car Rental: Convenient for Long-Term Stays

  • All car rental shuttle buses offer free pick-up and drop-off services at or near each terminal.

Leaving JFK Airport

1. Uber/Lyft: Fastest but Most Expensive

  • Terminal 8: Catch your ride right at baggage claim.
  • All Terminals: For a cheaper option, take the AirTrain to Federal Circle and call your Uber/Lyft from there.

2. AirTrain: Efficient and Cost-Effective

  • Jamaica Station Connection:
    • Connect to Long Island Railroad (LIRR) for direct service to Atlantic Terminal (Barclays Center), Penn Station, or Grand Central ($7.00 peak, $5 off-peak).
    • Connect to E, J, or Z subway lines.
    • Note: Exiting at Jamaica Station costs $8.50 (pay with OMNY or MetroCard). I find this absurd and there is no way around avoiding paying to exit, there are police officers all around the exit at all hours. Even 2am in the morning.
  • Federal Circle Connection:
    • Connect to rental cars, hotel shuttles, and pre-paid parking.
  • Howard Beach Connection:
    • Connect to the A train, long-term parking, or visit Far Rockaway Beach.

Tips for Navigating NYC’s Public Transportation

  • Buy a MetroCard: Essential for subway and bus rides. Unlimited ride options are available for 7 or 30 days.
  • Use OMNY: Tap and go with your phone or contactless card.
  • Download Apps: Apps like Google Maps or Citymapper can help you navigate routes and schedules.
  • Avoid Rush Hour: Trains and buses are extremely crowded between 7-10 AM and 4-7 PM on weekdays.
  • Stay Safe: Keep an eye on your belongings, and be aware of your surroundings, especially late at night.

Introduction

Welcome to Sol Mexican Cocina, a culinary gem nestled in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, where the essence of Baja California meets NYC. This vibrant and authentic Mexican restaurant is the result of a passionate journey taken by its two visionary owners, who traversed the coastal regions of Baja California to unravel the secrets of the region’s essence of salt. Their tireless pursuit of excellence has culminated in a dining experience that is sure to wow every customer who walks through the door.

Upon stepping into Sol Mexican Cocina, you are greeted with a warm and inviting ambiance. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor dining options, providing a spacious two-level seating arrangement that exudes energy and excitement. As you settle in, you’ll be met with friendly and knowledgeable staffs ready to take you on a culinary adventure.

To set the tone for your exceptional dining experience, the chefs at Sol Mexican Cocina present you with a delightful welcome of complimentary fried tostada served with a tantalizing array of sides such as beans, zesty salsa, and a burst of lemon that adds a delightful kick. It’s the perfect snack to savor while you eagerly await your freshly prepared meal, crafted from scratch with the finest and freshest ingredients.

Drinks

For a taste of Baja’s vibrant flavors, indulge in the restaurant’s signature drinks. The ‘Mango on Chile Frozen Margarita’ will transport your taste buds to sun-kissed beaches; served with a garnish of dried mango that infuses every sip with tropical bliss. The ‘Watermelon Margarita’, my personal favorite, beckons you to drink it like ambrosial nectar. Lastly, the ‘Froze’ offers a refreshing and delightful twist on a classic.

Appetizers

As you move on to the appetizers, the ‘Coconut Calamari’ steals the spotlight. This isn’t your ordinary calamari where you see the squid’s head and arms; here the calamari is expertly prepared, resembling tender chicken strips and enhanced with toasted sesame and dried orange peel, accompanied by a spicy dipping sauce that adds an exciting punch to the dish. Best way for me to describe it is a revelation of flavors; tender and moist. Complementing this culinary delight is the ‘Grilled Sweet Corn,’ a delightful symphony of flavors and textures, tossed with butter, lime, chilies, cotija cheese, and a tantalizing chipotle drizzle, topped with scallions for an extra zing.

Entrees

When it comes to entrees, the choices are simply divine.

The ‘Grilled Chicken Burritos’, encased in perfectly grilled flour tortillas, boast a medley of delectable fillings, including cheese, guacamole, borracha black beans, Pico de Gallo, and onions. This culinary masterpiece elevates the humble burrito to a work of art.

The ‘Wild Fish on Esquites’ is a symphony of seasonal flavors with an almond-lemon crust, accompanied by grilled corn esquites, tomato, basil, lime, avocado butter, scallions, and cotija cheese, harmoniously coming together to create a memorable seafood delight.

Vegetarians will be enthralled by the ‘Chile Poblano Relleno con Elote’, where roasted and fried chile poblanos embrace a delightful stuffing of grilled corn, calabacitas, goat and Mexican cheeses, kale, and guajillo chile sauce, crowned with a dollop of crema and a sprinkle of cilantro. It’s a burst of flavor in every mouthful, proving that vegetarian dishes can be equally indulgent and satisfying.

Dessert

At last, to culminate this extraordinary culinary journey, indulge in the famed Mexican dessert, ‘Tres leches’. This rich and luscious concoction will have you savoring every spoonful as it effortlessly melts in your mouth, leaving behind a lingering sweetness that perfectly caps off your dining experience.

Conclusion

Sol Mexican Cocina stands as a testament to the dedication and passion of its owners, who embarked on a quest to create a restaurant that celebrates the essence of Baja California’s culinary heritage.

With its warm ambiance, knowledgeable staff, and a menu that showcases the freshest ingredients and authentic flavors, Sol Mexican Cocina promises a dining experience that will leave you enchanted and eager to return. Whether you’re seeking a culinary adventure or simply craving the taste of Mexico, Sol Mexican Cocina invites you to indulge in the magic of Baja on a plate. Come, take a seat, and let your taste buds embark on an unforgettable journey.

Located in the heart of Brooklyn, New York, Area 53 is not your typical entertainment spot. It is an extraordinary place that offers a unique experience where adults can relive their childhood memories and escape the pressures of their daily monotonous routines. With a range of facilities, including Area 53 Adventure Park, Area 53 Laser Tag, Skyline Drive-In, and Ferox Athletics, this one-of-a-kind destination promises excitement, hope, and a dose of much-needed youthfulness.
Area 53 understands the need for adults to let loose and have fun. The establishment provides a safe and welcoming environment that allows young adults to forget their daily responsibilities and tap into their inner child. While catering to all age groups, what sets Area 53 apart is its dedicated nights for those aged 21 and above. It recognizes that adult fun is not limited to conventional options like clubs and lounges; instead, it offers a refreshing alternative for those seeking a different kind of enjoyment and adrenaline.
From the moment you step foot in, you are greeted with an atmosphere that sparks joy and wonder. Whether you’re navigating the thrilling obstacles at Area 53 Adventure Park, engaging in exhilarating laser tag battles, enjoying a movie under the stars at Skyline Drive-In, or challenging yourself physically at Ferox Athletics, every moment is filled with anticipation and adventure. I visited Area 53 with my pals and had so much fun there. Below are the highlights of my trip:

Adventure Park:

My first priority was to explore Area 53 -Adventure Park, located at 616 Scholes St, Brooklyn, NY 11237. As it’s always busy, I made advanced ticket reservations to skip the long queues. You can also buy tickets on the spot, but if a session is fully booked, you may be denied entry to Adventure Park. I specifically chose Tuesday, as it was exclusively reserved for adults 18+. This vibrant section of Area 53 provided a plethora of activities, including arcade games, rock climbing, roller-skating, zip lining, and food (for additional cost).
@ti3rratravels If you're 21+ and you're looking for something to do Tuesday night, @area53nyc is the place you want to be. Did I mention it's BYOB. You'll feel like a kid again but with 🍺 in your system #area53 #adventurepark #hiddengemsnyc #ti3rrabrooklyn #thingstodoinbrooklyn #brooklyn #nycdateideas #21over ♬ Drop - Timbaland & Magoo

Laser Tag:

Next on my plan was Laser Tag, located at 53 Bridge St, Brooklyn, NY 11201. I was all up for an unforgettable night out filled with games, music, and food. Note, you’re allowed to bring your own food and beverages into the facility. I participated in a few laser tagging games and had so much fun competing. Below are some laser tag options at Area 53:
Engage in the classic laser tag experience where players wield laser taggers to tag opponents from long distances. It’s an exhilarating game that will put your strategic skills to the test.
Step into the exciting world of gunless laser tag, a unique alternative that brings back the nostalgic feel of playing tag in the schoolyard. Their cutting-edge z-tag technology offers various play modes, creating an interactive and adrenaline-pumping experience that will keep you on your toes.
During breaks between games, take a small break and catch your breath in the lounge on the second floor. Designed with ample seating and game tables, the lounge provides the perfect space for your group to unwind and enjoy each other’s company. There is also an arena in the old factory basement, where you can spend your time between rusting columns during your break.

Ferox Athletics:

Next on my itinerary was a visit to Ferox Athletics , which I had scheduled for Thursday as it’s an exclusive entry only for 21+. Located at 72 Noble St, Brooklyn, NY 11222. I looked forward to engaging in a variety of exhilarating games and activities with my friends. We kicked off the evening with rock climbing, then gymnastics, attempting flips, cartwheels, and other impressive moves. Then we bounced on trampolines, remembering the good childhood times.
Ferox Athletics proved to be a haven of excitement, offering a diverse range of activities that catered to our inner thrill-seekers. From the challenging rock climbing to the playful gymnastics and the pure fun of trampolining, every moment was filled with laughter and a renewed sense of youthful joy.
@ti3rratravels Thursday night 21+ and BYOB. Do you think you have what it takes to survive these obstacles? Skyline Drive-In:

Who can say no to an outdoor movie show with the NYC skyline in the background? That seems surreal, isn’t it? This particular experience truly exceeded my expectations.
Situated at 1 Oak Street, Skyline Drive-In NYC offers a one-of-a-kind cinematic experience through its drive-in theater. Nestled by the East River, the location provides breathtaking views of the iconic Manhattan Skyline that you might be familiar with. You may recognize it from appearances on popular shows like SNL or from eye-catching advertisements by renowned brands such as Fendi. Beyond its role as a movie screening venue, Skyline Drive-In also serves as a captivating backdrop for photography and filming purposes, further showcasing its versatility and appeal as a picturesque location for creative endeavors. There are also concessions stands brimming with a selection of beverages, and food options that will fuel you throughout your theater adventure. In addition, you can also bring your own food and beverages, you are not limited to purchases at the concession stands.
Even if you don’t have a car, don’t worry. There is enough seating available to accommodate everyone. There are no ticket booth on the spot, so you have to buy purchase online. If you are bringing your car, only one ticket is needed as you are paying for the vehicle and not the amount of people you bring.
It was truly a fun time I had in Brooklyn with my friends. Each experience was different from another and provided us with the opportunity to bring out our inner child and escape from our worries. If you are visiting Brooklyn soon. I recommend you to book (if not all), at least one of these activities. If you are traveling with kids, I highly recommend looking into Adventure Park and Ferox Athletics.
